Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's Last Album May Soon Be Out, Lost Tapes Found In California [NusratSahib.Com]

There is good news for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's fans around the world. The legend's lost tape recordings have just been found in a storage in Oakland, California, the tapes were captured before his death.

The recordings are now owned by Australian-Pakistani singer-songwriter Mahmood Khan. Mahmood worked with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in 1996. A few sessions were recorded at Iran's mega star Morteza Barjesteh's studio in Encino, California. One of the songs was recorded at music producer Rick Rubin's house in Los Angeles.

When maestro Nusrat was battling kidney disease in 1998, Mahmood Khan was working on his solo album. The songs of the album were written and developed by Mahmood.

Mahmood's expertise in sound engineering had allowed him to install a recording studio at the house which was rented for Nusrat's stay in Los Angeles. The small trip also caught the eyes of Peter Gabriel and VH1.

It has been reported that these rare recordings have an estimated auction value of over 5 million dollars (more than 32 crore rupees). The tapes are in perfect condition and carry enough material to be produced into a new Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan album, a move being considered by Mahmood Khan.

As per the report, Mahmood Khan said,

My dream project would be to work with Doug Emery, Julio Hernandez, Dan Warner and Lee Levin (members of the Barry Gibb Band) on this production. Maybe Barry Gibb will lend a vocal or two, you never know; if he does it will be the greatest fusion of Pop and World music ever produced.
